Nambucca Valley Phoenix is a supported employment service for
people who have an intellectual disability. The service provides
supported employment through the operation of three separate
businesses:
Phoenix Art/Craft Enterprises - producing unique quality
craft and pottery
Phoenix Café Gallery - offers
catering, Devonshire Teas, lunches and
function facilities in a beautiful heritage building named
'The Bank'
Phoenix Workcrew Service - provides lawn mowing, moo-poo
fertiliser and mulch and a horticultural enterprise.
Transition to Work
Provides training for people with disabilities to join the work
force or to secure a job in Open employment such as
Woolworth's. This is available under Department of Disability,
Aging and Homecare and is provided for school leavers under a
special Grants System. The Grants are for two years and then the
young person is expected to join the workforce or gain
employment in a service such as this one.
Community Participationother programs are also run at phoenix which provides local
young people leaving school the ability to learn life skills and
leisure activities and to join groups of their peers and make
friendships like other members of the community. This is an
ongoing program to provide access to the community for people
with disabilities.
